NSW BUDGET CONFIRMS FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR WAGGA WAGGA PRECINCT

Last week’s NSW State Budget reconfirmed the NSW Government’s commitment to the Wagga Wagga Special Activation Precinct, with $154 million in funding allocated over the next four years taking the government’s total investment in the precinct to over $212 million .

Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said work on the precinct is well underway with construction on Stage A of the precinct nearing completion, marking an important milestone for the precinct and the region.

“It’s an exciting time for Wagga Wagga and I’m looking forward to seeing the precinct develop into the freight and logistics powerhouse we know it will be,” Ms Moriarty said.

“On top of all the construction underway around the precinct , in June this year, t he first 25 lots of industrial land, located around the new Riverina Intermodal Freight and Logistics (RiFL) Hub went to market , driving more investment and opportunity into the region.”

The NSW Government will continue to work closely with Wagga Wagga City Council to ensure the vision of the precinct connect ing Australia’s richest food growing region to the world is realised.

“The precinct is perfectly located on the Inland Rail and houses the Riverina Intermodal Freight and Logistics hub, w hich allow s overnight access to international ports and 75% of Australi a’s population making it easier for new and existing companies to do business Australia -wide and around the world ,” Ms Moriarty said.

The precinct covers 4,500 hectares including 300 hectares already developed as part of the Bomen Business Park, which is home to a range of businesses including food manufacturers and transport companies .

The precinct is expected to build on already -planned private and government investments and create up to 6,000 new jobs across a range of industries.

Member for Wagga Wagga, Dr Joe McGirr, welcomed the confirmation.

“The precinct is an important to the future of our region. It is critical that the NSW government continues to back it and our community,” he said The Wagga Wagga precinct was part of the NSW Government’s Strategic Infrastructure Review, and supported to continue as the precinct had the potential to drive and deliver outcomes in line with the NSW Government ’s objectives .

Special Activation Precincts are funded by the $ 4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund, which is dedicated to the delivery of transformational infrastructure investment in regional NSW.
